LUCEM light transmitting concrete is a mixture of fine concrete and optical fibres. These optical fibres are responsible for the lighted surface and the shininess.

LUCEM combines high-class quality and timeless aesthetic: high-grade concretes and translucent fibre that are durable and solid: weatherproofed and UV-resistant, abrasion-proofed and non-flammable. The aesthetic of a translucent appearance combined with a massive and stable material catches the eye. Sleek, glossy or silk-matt surfaces are forming an outstanding characteristic of LUCEM. These surfaces can be designed individually with extras, e.g. colour pigments or different arrangements of fibres.

Product types:

LUCEM Line – Due to a fine-meshed structure consisting of light transmitting fibres, the impression of a lightweight structure which in conjunction with illumination elegantly reveals silhouetted objects.
LUCEM Starlight – If fibres with different diameters are used in irregular distances in between each, the single light points appear brighter – forming a punctual transparency like the impression of a starlit night. The concrete material disappears into the background.

AJWM - Expanded Metal Mesh Panels

Designers routinely use interior and exterior surface materials to provide a visual and sensory experience of a building. Smooth, pristine surfaces create an obviously different design experience than a textured one.

Similarly, surfaces that can bend or flow to provide a more three dimensional experience create buildings with a very different design sense than flat rectilinear structures. Materials that allow air and light to penetrate them provide other design opportunities compared to opaque materials. For each of these design conditions, there is one material that can actually address them all and has seen a surging popularity in both interior and exterior applications. This material is known generically as expanded metal mesh and is a well-known, time-proven material in many industrial and heavy-usage building conditions.

It has also recently been discovered as a very flexible, affordable, and customizable material that can create a wide variety of appearances and functions that create exciting design possibilities for buildings of all types.
